Dhauligiri Bae Camp Trek Overview
It rises into the sky above Nepal like a massive diamond made of ice and rock. Sometimes he presents himself peacefully and calmly, then again wildly and unapproachably. The Dhaulagiri, the “white mountain”, has a special aura, and the closer we get to the mountain giant, the more clearly we feel its magic. We trek through the green landscape, hike between banana trees and orange trees, and cross through dense pine forests.
We pass isolated villages and get to know the everyday life of the mountain peoples of the Gurung and Magar. And step by step we get higher – deep views of the valley and far-reaching views of the snow-white peaks of the Dhaulagiri group included! The Annapurna chain can also be seen again and again, but the Dhaulagiri is at the center. From Italy Basecamp we look at its mighty south wall, we set up our tents under its spectacular north face.
The Chonbardan Glacier covered with rubble leads us into the Hidden Valley, which extends between the five-thousand-meter passes French Col and Dhampus. Mostly ice and snow dominate here, but green grass areas can also welcome us here. We climb the Dhampus Pass early in the morning and can see the desert-like plateau of Tibet in the north. While the mountains around us slowly shine in the light of the morning sun, we have a wonderful view: a parade of peaks, including Tukuche, Tilicho, Nilgiri, and Annapurna.
If the conditions are ideal, we crown our adventurous trekking with the climb to Dhampus Peak and say goodbye to Dhaulagiri from 6,012 m.
